The Basics

What Are
Peptides?

Peptides are short chains of amino acids — the same building blocks that make up proteins. Your body produces them naturally and uses them as biological messengers, signaling cells to repair, regenerate, and function optimally.

Think of them as your body's internal text messages. As we age, peptide production declines — and with it, the efficiency of cellular communication that keeps us feeling energized, resilient, and sharp.

Naturally Occurring

Your body already produces thousands of peptides. Research compounds mimic these naturally occurring signals.

Highly Specific

Unlike broad hormones, peptides act with precision — targeting specific receptors and cell types.

Actively Researched

Thousands of peer-reviewed studies explore peptides in metabolic, cognitive, and tissue research contexts.

Why It Matters

Peptides & the
Female Body

The perimenopause transition — typically beginning in your late 30s to mid-40s — marks a significant shift in the body's internal signaling. Research suggests peptides play a meaningful role in the systems most affected.

Metabolic Support

Compounds like Sermorelin and NAD+ are studied for their roles in energy metabolism and mitochondrial function — areas directly affected by hormonal shifts in perimenopause.

Skin & Collagen Research

GHK-Cu (copper peptide) is one of the most studied compounds in dermal research — extensively investigated for its role in skin tissue modeling and cellular renewal processes.

Energy & Vitality

NAD+ precursors and peptide secretagogues are studied in the context of cellular energy production and the age-related decline in mitochondrial efficiency.

Tissue & Recovery Research

BPC-157 and TB-500 are among the most referenced peptides in tissue repair and recovery research — studied in gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, and inflammatory models.

Immune Modulation

Thymosin-class peptides are studied for immune system regulation — an area of growing interest given the relationship between hormonal decline and immune function in midlife women.

Longevity & Aging Research

The longevity field has seen explosive growth in peptide research. Compounds like MOTS-C and SS-31 are studied specifically in the context of mitochondrial aging models.

All information on this page is educational. Peptides discussed are sold for research use only, not for human consumption or therapeutic use. Consult a qualified healthcare provider for medical advice.

Research Library

Compounds at a Glance

A plain-language overview of the most researched peptide compounds — what science has studied and why researchers find them interesting.

Tissue Research

BPC-157

Body Protection Compound · 15 amino acids

One of the most extensively studied peptides in gastrointestinal and musculoskeletal research. Originally isolated from gastric juice protein, BPC-157 has been studied in hundreds of animal models examining tissue healing, gut lining integrity, and inflammation responses.

Current status: FDA Category 2 (reclassification pending as of 2026). Available for research use.

Recovery Research

TB-500

Thymosin Beta-4 Fragment · Synthetic analog

A synthetic fragment of Thymosin Beta-4, a naturally occurring protein found in virtually all human cells. TB-500 has been studied in the context of cellular migration, tissue remodeling, and inflammatory signaling — particularly in muscle and connective tissue models.

Current status: Available for research use under RUO framework.

Endocrine Research

Sermorelin

GH-Releasing Hormone Analog · 29 amino acids

A synthetic analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). Sermorelin stimulates the pituitary gland to produce and release growth hormone naturally. Unlike direct GH administration, it works through the body's own feedback system. Extensively studied in endocrine and metabolic research. Compounding-legal.

Current status: Compounding legal. On FDA bulk drug substance list.

Skin Research

GHK-Cu

Copper Peptide · Tripeptide-Glycine-Histidine-Lysine

A naturally occurring copper complex found in human plasma, urine, and saliva. GHK-Cu levels decline significantly with age. It is one of the most studied peptides in dermatological research — investigated for its roles in collagen synthesis, wound healing, and cellular renewal. Used in both topical and systemic research models.

Current status: Available for research use. Low regulatory risk.

Metabolic Research

NAD+

Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide · Coenzyme

NAD+ is a coenzyme found in every living cell and is essential to hundreds of metabolic processes. NAD+ levels decline sharply with age — research suggests by up to 50% between ages 40 and 60. Extensively studied in cellular energy metabolism, DNA repair, and sirtuin activation. Compounding-legal and widely used in clinical research.

Current status: Compounding legal. On FDA bulk drug substance list.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked

Are peptides safe?

Peptide research compounds are sold for laboratory research purposes only — not for human consumption. Safety data varies significantly by compound. Some peptides like GHK-Cu and NAD+ have extensive safety profiles in research literature. Others are at earlier stages of study. Eviwell does not make safety claims about any compound. Always consult a licensed healthcare provider for medical advice.

What does "Research Use Only" mean?

Research Use Only (RUO) is a regulatory designation meaning the compound is sold exclusively for laboratory and scientific research — not for human therapeutic use or consumption. Vendors operating under the RUO framework must verify that buyers are licensed researchers or healthcare institutions. Vitalgen Labs operates under strict RUO compliance including institutional verification, chain-of-custody documentation, and FDA-compliant labeling on every shipment.

Who can order from Vitalgen Labs?

Vitalgen Labs supplies research compounds to licensed researchers, integrative medicine clinics, functional medicine practitioners, naturopathic physicians, compounding pharmacists, and verified research institutions. A professional application is required before account approval. Minimum first order is $250. Recurring wholesale accounts have a $500/month minimum.

How do I know the compounds are pure?

Vitalgen Labs sources exclusively from GMP-certified US facilities and provides a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA) from an independent third-party testing laboratory with every order. COAs include HPLC purity percentages and mass spectrometry identity confirmation. Minimum purity standard is 98% HPLC. You can verify your batch independently against the testing lab's published records.

Are any of these peptides FDA approved?

Most research peptides discussed here are not FDA-approved drugs for human use. Sermorelin and NAD+ are on the FDA's bulk drug substance list and can be legally compounded by licensed 503A/503B pharmacies with a physician's prescription. BPC-157 is currently on the FDA's Category 2 list — reclassification was announced in early 2026 but had not been formally published as of mid-2026. Research compounds sold RUO are not drugs and are not subject to drug approval requirements when sold and used strictly for research.

What is the difference between Eviwell and Vitalgen Labs?

Eviwell is an education platform. We help women understand the science of peptides, longevity research, and hormone-aware metabolic health. We do not sell compounds. Vitalgen Labs is our trusted research supply partner — a separate, compliant RUO vendor that supplies GMP-certified, third-party tested peptide compounds to verified researchers and healthcare professionals. Eviwell links to Vitalgen Labs for compound access.
